Your child should be comfortable in the water and able to submerge their whole head.
Baby swimming – intermediate 2
About the course
For babies who have completed the beginner and intermediate 1 courses. Parents learn lifesaving holds and get ideas for activities with their baby from the poolside or a floating mat, above and below the water.
The course runs for 7 or 8 weeks, with 30-minute sessions.
Your child should be able to jump from the poolside, submerge their whole head and be comfortable with splashes on their face.
Why join baby and toddler swimming?
Create positive experiences together with your child!
- Confidence – Make time for routines that support a positive experience and learning.
- Connection – Notice and respond to your child’s reactions. Give them opportunities to explore and challenge themselves.
- Emotions – Give positive feedback and show enjoyment and interest. Children can pick up on stress and fear.
- Experience – Children learn through experience. Notice their initiative and willingness to try, and give them opportunities to build a sense of achievement.
- Practice – Learning comes through repetition. An extra swimming day each week gives your child more opportunities to practise.
- Challenges – Some children do not enjoy lying on their backs. Practise this skill as part of learning to turn onto their back for self-rescue. As children grow and their bodies change, their balance in the water also changes.
