Social sustainability:
inclusion in practice
Tromsøbadet aims to be accessible to everyone, regardless of age, background or financial circumstances. Through pricing choices, partnerships and inclusive events, we work to lower barriers to participation, build community and support quality of life in Tromsø. Social sustainability means making good experiences available to more people.

Lowering barriers
In 2025, we focused on how activities, pricing and accessibility could increase participation. Tromsøbadet distributes around 4,000 tickets annually to children, young people and adults who might otherwise be unable to visit. Schools, organisations and voluntary partners help make these opportunities possible.
Our community causes
Our community causes is one of several programmes making swimming accessible to more people. Twice a year, free tickets are awarded to local clubs, associations and voluntary initiatives supporting activity, connection and enjoyable experiences for vulnerable groups in Tromsø municipality. We particularly encourage locally rooted, volunteer-led projects, alongside associations, foundations, sports clubs, school classes and charitable organisations working for social causes.

Inspirit Ukraine

In 2025, the Ukrainian cultural centre Inspirit Ukraine received tickets through the community programme. More than 100 participants visited Tromsøbadet during events on 13 and 20 December, providing a shared experience during the pre-Christmas period.
“We are very grateful that Tromsøbadet helps brighten this dark time of year. Being together in a warm, welcoming place before Christmas means a great deal to children and adults,” said Larissa Acharya of Inspirit Ukraine. (Translated from Norwegian.)
Our community programme is part of a wider effort to make Tromsøbadet accessible to more people.
In 2025, cooperation continued with NAV through Opplevelseskortet and with Kirkens Bymisjon, supporting access to activities for children, young people and other vulnerable groups.
Ung kulturrabatt was reintroduced with Tromsø municipality, giving young people cheaper admission as part of a broader focus on children and youth. Reduced-price multi-visit passes also help lower barriers to participation.
To mark Tromsøbadet’s sixth anniversary in August 2025, first-year primary school pupils in Tromsø were offered free swimming. Other inclusive activities included DødseCamp during the winter holiday: a free youth activity focused on skills, safe participation and positive shared experiences.
Inclusive events also support diversity, safety and belonging. In 2025, a nude wellness evening was held for the second year with Troms Naturistforening. Both events sold out, demonstrating demand for welcoming spaces supporting body positivity, openness and different swimming experiences.
Together, these measures turn community responsibility into action. By combining commercial operations with targeted inclusion, Tromsøbadet strengthens its role as an accessible meeting place for the whole city.
